Ho-oh (鳳凰) or fenghuang is the Asian version of Phoenix bird. Like the bird in the European culture, this mythical bird it is sometimes depicted with a fireball. It is believed that the bird only appears in areas or places that are blessed with utmost peace and prosperity or happiness.

I’ve got this Platinum pen with a maki-e design showing a golden phoenix on an otherwise a classical black pen with golden band and trim. The Platinum maki-e pens are made with a silk screen printing process on a resin body and then hand finished with maki-e craftsman. The pen has an 18K gold nib.

The gold nib makes it soft like a flexible nib. One of my favourite. I just think that I don’t really know how to take care of the maki-e drawing, so I let the pen usually stays in a safe place, rather than travelling with me.
