At the beginning of this year, Sailor has introduced a new Pro Gear Slim Shikiori Japanese Fairy Tale series: the Crane Light Blue, Dragon Palace Mint Green, Princess Kaguya Red, and Vega Navy Blue. The Vega Navy Blue is inspired by the character of Orihime the Weaver Girl, who is symbolised by the star Vega. This story gave rise to the Tanabata (たなばた or 七夕) — or the Star Festival (星祭り, Hoshi matsuri) — celebrated in Japan today, August 25th.
Sailor Pro Gear Slim fountain pens use a cartridge-converter fill system. The cap and the barrel of the pens feature a special glimmer effect, also familiar from other special edition pens such as the Purple Cosmos and Red Supernova.
Vega itself is the brightest star in the northern constellation of Lyra. It has the Bayer designation α Lyrae, abbreviated as α Lyr. Located only 25 light-years from the Sun, this star is one of the most luminous stars in the Sun’s neighbourhood. It is the fifth-brightest star in the night sky. Vega has been extensively studied by astronomers, leading it to be termed “arguably the next most important star in the sky after the Sun”. It was the first star other than the Sun to be photographed and the first to have its spectrum recorded. Vega has functioned as the baseline for calibrating the photometric brightness scale and was one of the stars used to define the zero point for the UBV photometric system.
